In the early morning, upon the third of October, cruise missiles reigned down on Greater CareBearia. Bombers and soldiers stormed the remains of the city during the night. No one who witnessed the destruction could have guessed that it was a mission of peace.
When Candiru, queen of CareBearia, awoke, there was a message already waiting for her. Shorty, of the nation Ziploc, demanded peace, for the sake of justice in the world of Cyber Nations. He claimed to be under orders of the great Atlantic Shadow Confederation to stop the queen's current6 war and permanently put an end to her thievery. Naturally, the fair queen was confused. Not only had she never heard of the Shadow Confederation or attacked one of their members, but she had already made peace with all of her enemies. And, as she was only robbing the cities that had long since been abandoned by their rulers, her people thrived at no cost to her rivals.
Still, the people of Candiru were a peaceful people. She accepted the attacks as a misunderstanding, and brought news of the situation to her friends in the RLMMO alliance. Together, they searched for the alliance’s leaders and put together a draft, explaining the situation to them, in hopes of resolving the issue quickly.
But, hours later, still in the midst of discussion, word spread of another attack. Someone had struck the nation of Bocomo in the night. Again, cruise missiles and bombs were used to level the city. Some of them began to consider then that, maybe this wasn’t a misunderstanding after all. If you were trying to end a ruler's war, for the sake of peace, you would not attack his ally’s cities, you would use diplomacy. Still, the RLMMO tried to remain hopeful.
They were naive. They truly believed that this was still a misunderstanding that could be cleared up before the end of the day. There was no retaliation and peace was offered all around. It was what they had come for, so the war should have ended as quickly as it had started. They had no reason not to accept it, if that was their true purpose.
But, moments later, several more RLMMO nations were under siege. Shadow members flooded in to raid the weak and dying nations. Their messages took a disturbing turn, as well. No more did they talk of peace. Instead, they simply claimed to be under orders to destroy their alliance. But by who, and for what reason? The survivors could only guess. And they had more important things to attend to, at the moment.
A sudden wave of destruction had hit the RLMMO in the early afternoon, much greater than anything that had come before. Many of their cities in ruin. Millions of dollars worth of property was destroyed in a matter of hours, and attempts at calming the masses had begun to fall on deaf ears. Riots raged in the streets and the citizens demanded justice or, at the very least, an end to the constant attacks. Finally, unable to stand by and watch as the alliance fell apart, an RLMMO member struck back. He hit two of their nations, in an attempt to show his enemy that they, too, could fight for what they believed in. Once again, the man gave them an offer of peace. If the Shadow members wanted to end this war, it still wasn’t too late.
But, it seems that the idea of a small alliance striking back against
them, the bringers of peace and justice, the alliance of nearly two hundred nations spanning all across the globe, had driven them into a blood frenzy. They ranted and raved endlessly about the unjustifiable attacks upon their alliance. They believed themselves to be in the right, claiming that they were allowed to attack smaller alliances, under their laws.
And, despite everything that had happened over the course of the day, each fresh wave of attacks was met with offers of peace. It was a desperate attempt, but the RLMMO remained hopeful that their attackers truly only wanted to bring peace to the world. It was a view they agreed with, despite their difference in methods. And as they were outnumbered six to one, peace seemed to be the only sensible option. But, once again, the Shadow Confederation declined every attempt to bring an end to the fighting. They chose war. And the RLMMO gave it to them.
Finally, as hope began to fade and preparations for a final stand had begun, one of the leaders of the assault accepted peace with the nation of Bocomo. It seemed like the war was coming to an end much sooner then anyone had anticipated.
However, this optimism was short lived. They soon received word that many Shadow members were offended by the retaliation and had redoubled their efforts. Many struck tonight, claiming revenge for the unjustifiable attacks on their alliance.
The RLMMO then received their terms of surrender. They were to send nine million dollars and two hundred points of technology to the ones who had lead the campaign against them. No RLMMO member would be allowed to declare war on another nation, for the purpose of stealing equipment and technology, regardless of activity or alliance, ever again. And, finally, RLMMO would seize all attacks on members of the Atlantic Shadow Confederation. If the terms were broken, they would continue their attacks.
It was clear, however, that they had never wanted peace. It was an excuse to dissolve a new alliance and extort the survivors. It was a clever tactic, looking back on it. While their victims had scrambled to resolve the issue, they had time to prepare targets. It was clean. Efficient. They had probably done this before. They would probably do it again.
Outraged, Bissrok of Shogani, second-in-command of RLMMO, lost interest in dealing with their underlings and decided to take the issue over their heads. He finally did what they had set out to do in the beginning, and sent a message to one of the leaders of the Shadow Confederation. He called for a truce, with no reparations and no consequences for either side. But, as of yet, there has been no response, except for the leveling of his city, minutes afterwards.
If they were to survive the night, they would need to bring in help. And, as it so happened, the alliance had made many friends in their short time in the world. Now was as good a time as any to test the limits of those friendships.
