I will touch on hybrid professions later. The likes of BH,SL,CM,CE,Commando,Smuggler. These professions while often similar do have new content systems. That means professions specific content. I will also touch on the pilot system later it is built along the legendary class system which I will touch on later. Though expect a set number of blocks so players can build their template as they like with some prerequisite blocks being apparent.
Right now though I will touch on three professions Entertainer, Adept, Politician. These are oddball professions Entertainer, and politician are social classes. While Adept is the new jedi system be aware jedi is now a bad word. This time around continuity matters.
ENTERTAINER.
Entertainer has gotten some radical new elements to enhance its usefulness, but also promote interaction with other players. Like medic all aspects are available at novice, but their effectiveness is ridiculously small. Here are the new features in Entertainer.
Entertainers serve in two ways for story arc development. Revelations unveil a new facet to the players story arc. Philosophy which helps players to discover new options for advancement. Story arcs are critical for unlocking things. Entertainers might be the only way to unlock some things. Expect that the entertainer may need to ask you certain questions then go through a process like old base terminal slicing. The better they are at refineing the more unique possibilities arise.
Theft yes entertainers can rob their clients, or any other hapless soul they find. A warning never go AFK while anywhere near a entertainer. You must actively block theft, and if they continue to rob you the payout increases. Entertainers can take anything your character has credits, blocks, items, XP. They can steal it all except for what is deposited in your ship. The higher level a entertainer is the faster they can clear you out. Expect different theft moves from pick pocketing to padding. From what I understand the system will not tell you who robbed you, but you might get a notice that you are being robbed.
Information gathering is important for the entertainer. Entertainers can unlock different dialogues from NPCs. They can also obtain mission discs this way. Mission discs are similar to the old treasure map system. Entertainers usually need to run missions in cities to obtain these, and they can vary wildly in difficulty. Mission discs though should hold many elaborate missions with unique rewards.
ENTERTAINER 2.
Entertainer breaks down into Image Designer, Dancer, Musician, Politician. While the fine points of the first three are not settled expect them to be very similar to what they were with some new functionalities that might help in small areas. Politician is in entertainer also unlike before players are expected to make a particular NPC city their home, and set it up as they like.
POLITICIAN.
Politicians will now run for office in NPC cities in which they reside. By default a city will have NPC politicians. A NPC mayor, sherriff, diplomat, commissioner. Each position holds its own power to prevent one player from harming the city.
Politicians will be able to upgrade civic structures, and enact bonuses for the benefit of the residents, and guests. These will of course cost more money. Better communities will have a lot more perks, but will have to spend more to keep them. Expect a lot of mayor functionality to return, and expect some new abilities.
Travel times can now be reduced. Public crafting stations can be improved. Exotic trainers can be placed. More varied mission terminals. Bases are part of a city dependent on faction, but bases can be upgraded. Theaters, Casinos, and mechanic shops can be placed. A city can even have a advertising budget.
Politicians will also have missions that will allow them to negotiate with third party NPCs. Blackmail NPCs by catching them in a awkward position. Settle arguments between the city residents. Doing these missions will net the politician money, and may even temporarily reduce some city expenses. Catching a galactic travel commissioner selling supplies to a criminal syndicate might be persuaded to split the ill gotten gain by reducing the cities costs.
ADEPT.
Adept is the jedi system which is a legendary system. Legendary systems are unlocked by finishing a characters story arc in a particular way. The end result that nets Adept is very small while other legendary professions are easier to unlock. All profession masteries have a legendary unlock available. You may only have one legendary unlock available if you choose to activate a new unlock you lose the old unlock, and will have to earn it again.
Legendary professions are relatively small holding only around eight skill boxes, but these boxes do not cost skillpoints. They must be activated however with either crafting xp, entertainer xp, healing xp, combat xp. Expect the boxes to be very expensive. These boxes are only used to hold legendary blocks which are among the rarest blocks to find. While some will be obtained through complex quests most follow the hard loot philosophy.
ADEPT 2.
Adepts do use force powers, and since force powers do not connect to any other profession Adept is a floating unlock. You can be a Master artisan, and be a adept. All that is required is you have a single mastery to connect it too. That is the strength of adepts it can augment any profession, and it can use a lightsaber. Though using a lightsaber may make you a large target since bounty hunting comes back. There was no specific penalty for adepts dieing, or being hunt. Adepts are in no way superior to other legendary professions. They are just very difficult to unlock.
STORY ARCS 101.
This is chronological in description so think of it as you are just starting out, and not established. During the tutorial of the game you will be testing you. Thats right the game does a workup on your personality. This is to not only give you the best options that will fit your mindset, but to create your personal story arc. Remember story arcs can take months to unfold. So answer honestly so you can get the adventure that suits your tastes. Some are mysterious, others are tales of revenge, and others are even romances. So it is very important the questions be answered honestly.
The alternate characters you unlock can be discarded if you do not like the story, but you cannot discard your main, and to participate in subsequent arcs you must complete that mains arc. There is supposed to be around 12 story arcs, but more will be added later.
Story arcs are like those old books where you make the choice. Those choices lead to another choice, and then another. Adept for example may only be unlocked by reaching a couple specific resolutions while legendary BH might work with five, and legendary marksman might take any one of fifteen. By default if you get overlap you will be offered the rarest. From my understanding the best way to get the rarest from a story arc is to behave in a consistent manner even if it means passing up a awesome reward.
Remember the system wants to tempt you towards the lesser goal. This is the old Kotor system where you are offered a chance for instant gratification over a long term goal. Do not equate however altruistic reactions with unlocking the likes of adept that would be far too easy.
Also there is not supposed to be a set response to any particular story arc. Each character creation is supposed to get a tilt. That will drop unexpected elements into the quest series. Two people playing the same story arc might have varied results based on a tilt character showing up for one of them. The tilt usually is a side quest that cannot be avoided, and since there are dozens of side quests about it can either increase your chances of one profession at the expense of another.
The 101 on story arcs is they really cannot be abused there is no set path or method. The only way to increase your chances is to play through as many of them as possible. Your main will get more cracks at arcs as time goes on. Which will increase your chance over time. While discarding alts often will help you run through more story arcs.
